I managed to hurt my leg a month ago on the walk over to (the now famous) Dan & Susy’s house.  As I was lying on their sofa icing my leg, they offered me a sip of a cocktail.  I thought it was nice, but it was missing something.

So, as I usually do, I piped up and said, “Hey, could you add [quantity] of [Ingredient X] to that?”  And, as is sometimes the case, my Mad Scientisting turned out making a freaking great cocktail.

The Leather Strap Cocktail

  • 1 ounce Bourbon (Four Roses “Yellow” recommended)
  • 1 ounce Dolin Blanc (or blanc vermouth -not dry)
  • 1 ounce Creme de Cassis

Add ice to a Boston Shaker.  Add all the ingredients.  Shake until your hands feel like they’re going to freeze off.

Fill an old fashioned glass (tumbler/lowball) halfway with cracked ice.  Strain the drink into the old fashioned.
